Seachem ParaGuard is mainly designed to treat freshwater, brackish water and saltwater community fish. It is not safe at all to use for plants, calms, corals, frogs, snails, shrimps or other invertebrates.

It is particularly useful in hospital and receiving tanks for new fish and whenever new fish are introduced to a community tank. ParaGuard™ is appropriate for treating a variety of parasitic infections of exotic fish. Below are some of the more common infections treatable with ParaGuard™.

It’s useful as a prophylactic treatment to make sure none of your fish have any kind of fungal, bacterial, parasitic, or viral issues but it also isn’t safe for invertebrates so it ends up killing them. It didn’t seem to affect my colony of regular (trumpet?) snails. I removed my charcoal but not my sponge. Their website advises starting at a low dose and building up to full dose if you have any questionable species you want to protect.
