Why Reading Is A Psychosocial Process

Thinking, analyzing, remembering, and problem solving are just some of the psychological processes that go into word recognition and comprehension. Reading, however, is not just understanding individual words. Susie also learns to piece the words she learns together into sentences and then paragraphs.

They have also been extremely interested in the psychological processes involved. Psychological processes are the cognitive mechanisms involved in making sense of the world. In this case, how does Susie move from seeing a grouping of letters to understanding what a word means?

The more she reads, and the more complex the subject matter, the greater her overall level of comprehension. This requires, first, a surface level understanding, then she begins to understand the text as a whole; finally, she is able to draw from other readings and situations in her life to better comprehend individual pieces of writing.
