How the Least-Preferred Coworker Scale Works. A typical set of bipolar adjectives used in the LPC scale would include pleasant/unpleasant, friendly/unfriendly, supportive/hostile, and so on. The responses are graded from 1 for the least favorable attribute (for example, unpleasant/unfriendly), to 8 for the most favorable one (pleasant/friendly).

The LPC scale asks a leader to think of all the persons with whom he or she has ever worked, and then to describe the one person with whom he or she worked the least well with.
