One of the best places to see wildflowers in spring, just a short day trip away, is the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve State Natural Reserve. Living in a valley surrounded by mountains means that Kern County residents are often just a short drive away from wildflowers for most of the year.
The hills are alive in Kern County with orange, yellow and purple wildflowers. After several rainy days this winter, Alison Sheehey, Sequoia ForestKeeper programs director, said California is experiencing a super bloom.
