The sunflower fields were open August 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, & 29, 2021. Finished for 2021. Buhler, Kansas – 2022 is the fourth year of sunflowers at Kansas Maze Sunflower Festival, which they hope will kick off August 20 and continues until September 12. The 2022 price has not been set as of June 23rd.

Clearwater, Kansas – In recent years, Klausmeyer Farm & Pumpkin Patch, north of Clearwater, Kansas, has added sunflower fields which are open to the public for a $2 fee. They have planted three 40 acre fields with sunflowers, a few weeks apart, so they bloom over a longer period of time.

While the honor became official in 1903 when the Kansas Legislature named sunflowers the state’s official flora, the root of the answer goes even deeper. First and foremost, Kansas is the sunflower state because our weather is perfectly suited for them. The plant is native to North America and grows well in many locations throughout the continent.

Visiting sunflower fields that are open to the public is a great way to support local farmers and to Shop Kansas Farms! We’ll be adding more public sunflower fields to our list as we find them! Most fields have Facebook pages that they update, so keep an eye on those as they share when their fields are at their best.
