HONOLULU (March 12, 2018) – The electric lighting of Hawaii, which began in 1887 with the lighting of Iolani Palace, will be honored by IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization advancing technology for humanity, with an IEEE Milestone in Electrical Engineering.
The ʻIolani Palace (Hawaiian: Hale Aliʻi ʻIolani) was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii beginning with Kamehameha III under the Kamehameha Dynasty (1845) and ending with Queen Liliʻuokalani (1893) under the Kalākaua Dynasty, founded by her brother, King David Kalākaua.
