The United States Constitution is silent on the subject of political parties. The Founding Fathers did not originally intend for American politics to be partisan.

It’s not that the Founding Fathers didn’t think about them but, to them, even the word “party’’ was anathema. They preferred a presidential election, the linchpin of our political system, in which the top vote-getter got to be president; the number two man, vice president. Why would you need parties?

The Founding Fathers of the United States, or simply the Founding Fathers or Founders, were a group of American revolutionary leaders who united the Thirteen Colonies, led the war for independence from Great Britain, and built a frame of government for the new United States of America during the later decades of the 18th century. In fact, Madison and Jefferson fathered the present-day Democratic Party, destroying the Federalists and fostering our winner-take-all brand of politics. One of the enduring American myths we cherish is the two-party system. We must have two parties!
