Did Sunline Have Any Foals

Sunline went into retirement at the McKee property near Auckland and produced four foals. Two of her progeny won races, Sunstrike (2004 filly, by Rock of Gibraltar) and Sun Ruler (2005 colt, by Zabeel).

Sunline was bred by Susan Archer and Michael Martin. They sent their mare Songline, who traced in her pedigree to a sister to the legendary Australasian champion Phar Lap, to the imported sire Desert Sun, and Sunline was the result. Sunline was born at Pleasanton Farm in Cambridge and reared there by highly respected horsewoman Ngaire Fraser.

A world expert on laminitis, Ric Redden from the United States, who has 35 years experience dealing with the equine illness, visited Sunline and the McKee family, who own the mare, on Monday. Redden noticed she had lost all quality of life due to the disease and they decided there was no option other than to have her humanely put down.
