Here we look back at the summer of 2012, the events that led up to that being a landmark period for Scottish football and the blow by blow incidents that ultimately led to the liquidation of Rangers FC.

On 16 November 2012, a company called Rangers International Football Club plc was formed and listed on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange and became the holding company for The Rangers Football Club Ltd., which, in turn, owns the football club.

The bookmaker had refused to pay out on a bet made by Kinloch that Rangers would be “relegated” after the 2011–12 Scottish Premier League season. Kinloch said in court that he had placed the bet after learning that Rangers were in financial difficulties.

During the 1990s and 2000s, a period when financial crises and mismanagement were endemic in football, Rangers, a once great football club, regularly posted financial losses.
