The lab, led by Professor Andrew Pask, will develop technology to bring back the marsupial which is believed to have gone extinct after the last known animal died in captivity at the Hobart Zoo in 1936. A plan to bring back the extinct Tasmanian tiger has been dismissed by conservationists as a “waste of money”.

On September 7, 1936, the last thylacine, nicknamed “Benjamin,” died of neglect at the Hobart Zoo. The even bigger tragedy is that we had the technology to film and photograph this magnificent creature. See this Tasmanian tiger in action before his death.
