Parks and Recreation (also known as Parks and Rec) is an American political satire mockumentary sitcom television series created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur. The series aired on NBC from April 9, 2009, to February 24, 2015, for 125 episodes, over seven seasons. A special reunion episode aired on April 30, 2020.
Unlike many other TV shows, Parks & Recreation wasn’t canceled, and season 7 being the last one was something Schur and Poehler pitched to NBC. Speaking to EW in 2014, Schur explained he and Poehler began talking about the series’ end at the beginning of season 6, and they wanted to be the ones who decided to end the show.
Although it was well-received by critics and audiences, Parks & Recreation was on the verge of getting canceled various times, to the point where Michael Schur once shared he had “ come to really enjoy the uncertainty ”, as it pushed them to come up with better ideas.
It might seem unbelievable now that Parks and Recreation wasn’t always super popular, but for years, the series was constantly on the verge of being cancelled.
