Henri Nestlé 1868 102HENRI NESTLÉ 1814–1890 The “seal of approval” Whereas virtually all competing products invoked the distinguished chemist Justus von Liebig, Nestlé’s goal was to establish his own name as a brand.
Nestlé and Anna Clémentine Thérèse Ehemant were married in Frankfurt, Germany on 23 May 1860. Nestlé sold his company in 1875 to his business associates and then lived with his family alternately in Montreux and Glion, where they helped people with small loans and publicly contributed towards improving the local infrastructure.
In this way he assured a state guaranteed pension for himself and his wife, and Montreux got a covered market which was built in 1891, a year after Henri Nestlé’s death. On 19 February 1890, less than five months before his death, Nestlé rewrote his will for the last time on a few pages of a school exercise book.
