In 1888, he sold his patents to industrialist George Westinghouse, whose Westinghouse Electric Company had quickly become an Edison competitor.
It wouldn’t be logical to have both, and Thomas Edison, who pioneered direct current, knew that, as did his rivals George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla, who were Team Alternating Current. It became a race to see which current would become accepted by the American public, netting their promoter a huge increase in public profile and profits.
Westinghouse and his AC electricity systems have won. Before wrapping up this post, I must admit that I was rooting for Westinghouse throughout the entire movie. It just so happens that my grandfather worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation for his entire career.
