Can We Change The Law? is a project where students study the history of laws and identify how they affect different members of a community. Students then form teams and analyze current issues to identify a law they would like to change. Teams then develop proposals for a new law or amend an existing law, and take action to change the law. These teams are the future leaders of our society! Let’s get started! Let’s start by defining what a “just law” is.
The law has two functions: it can serve as a directive instrument or a pioneering force. The first is to impose majority-approved rules on citizens, while the second is to serve as a resistance to social movements. Habermas and Marcuse have both written about the dangers of appearing omnipotent in the face of adversity. But the most significant function of law is to ensure that society operates as a fair and just society, regardless of social standing.
