Should I downgrade shower to 8.5kw from 9.5kw on 6mm cable
Should I really be upgrading to an 8.5kw shower instead because looking at the iet tables, etc it’s pretty borderline whether 6mm is ok (I believe the shower will pull upwards of 39a to 41a and 6mm has a maximum rating of 47a depending on which table you use) and recommendations I can see largely say 10mm is needed for 9.5kw electric showers.

“Can you run an 8.5 kW shower on a 6mm cable?” Only if the shower is 6mm away from the consumer unit which seems unlikely. Is a 6mm T&E Cable OK For a 9.5kw shower? – DIYnot Forums
As long as the cable’s clipped direct all along its route and not buried anywhere or covered by insulation then that’s not the problem. How so? 6mm T+E is rated at 40A, a 9.5kW shower at 230v requires 41.3A, and that’s before we apply any factors. In any case, 6mm really isn’t practical for modern day showers. Is 6mm cable with a 40 amp MCB sufficient for a 8.5 kw electric shower …
6mm twin and earth cable (which this almost certainly is) can be backed up by a maximum of a 32a MCB, even lower if other factors are involved.
